TECHNICAL WIKI
A File Service lets workshops and remapping professionals entrust the modification of their ECU and TCU files to a specialist provider. The workshop carries out diagnostics, reads the control unit, uploads the file and selects the required service. ECUTuneFiles makes the modifications compatible with the request, then makes the modified file available on the portal. The workshop then writes the file and carries out the checks on the vehicle. Here is how an order works on ECUTuneFiles, from reading the control unit to delivery of the file.
01
The garage or tuner remains responsible for everything concerning the vehicle: its condition, the read and write operations and checking the result.
ECUTuneFiles receives the request on its portal, checks available information, processes the file when the service and ECU are supported, then makes the result available in the customer case. Technical exchanges about that file stay centralised on the portal.
The File Service does not work directly on the vehicle. Missing information on equipment, software version, or a mechanical issue can therefore change how the case is assessed.
02
The customer portal centralises orders, files, credit balance, and case-related exchanges.
Services are billed in prepaid credits. 1 credit equals 1 € at the standard rate; discounts apply based on top-up amount. Details on the “How credits work” page and on the portal.
Use a compatible tool and the method indicated by its manufacturer. The file obtained must suit the requested service. Depending on the protocol, the read may be real or virtual. A Virtual Read is not a backup of the current content — see the Read and write guide.
Select the vehicle and provide useful information: ECU or TCU reference, software version, mechanical modifications, any faults, and remapping history if you know it.
Select the desired service from those available for your request. The cost in credits is shown before confirmation. Some operations may require a specific review.
When the file and service are compatible with our automatic processing, the case can be handled at any time. Other requests require manual handling. Case status is visible on the portal.
Retrieve the delivered file in your customer area and keep it with your read and vehicle information.
Write the file to the control unit following your tool’s procedure. Then check starting, fault codes, engine or gearbox behaviour and the parameters relevant to the service.
03
For compatible files and services — meaning ECU, software version and service combinations already studied and validated in our database — our in-house algorithms process the file automatically in 3 seconds, 24/7. These solutions and algorithms are developed and validated by our calibration engineers; they do not rely on generative AI. Other requests (version outside the database, already modified vehicle, special request, etc.) are handled manually.
Other files need a specific intervention. The file is then reviewed and processed manually from the information provided. Support is available Monday to Friday 9:00–21:00 and weekends 10:00–19:00 (Paris time). Handling and actual lead time depend on the job; the 3-second automatic processing time does not apply to manual requests.
| Criterion | Automatic processing | Manual processing |
|---|---|---|
| Trigger | ECU / software / service already validated in our database | Outside database, already modified vehicle or special request |
| Processing availability | Possible 24/7 | During support hours (Mon–Fri 9–21, Sat–Sun 10–19, Paris time) |
| Required data | Suitable file and accurate information | File and more detailed technical context if needed |
| Result | File available in the case | File available after case processing |

A vehicle name is not always enough. For a workable request, provide the ECU reference, the HW/SW identifiers, the read file, the tool and method used, the expected service and the vehicle’s modifications. If you are looking to fix a specific problem, attach the fault codes, the conditions in which it occurs and, if necessary, logs.
Example: "Stage 2" alone does not describe the mechanical setup. An exhaust, intercooler, turbo, or modified injectors do not require the same checks. Specify the parts actually fitted rather than assuming a commercial label is enough.
05
The delivered file is only part of the job. Before writing, check it matches the job and protocol used. During programming, follow the tool manufacturer’s instructions, especially for power supply. On checksums: depending on the ECU and protocol, correction may be done on the delivered file, by the calibration software or by the write tool. Do not assume a tool systematically corrects every checksum on write. A dedicated “Checksum correction” line also exists in the catalogue.
After writing, record any fault codes and analyse their cause before clearing them. Check operation at idle and under load when the service requires it. If there is a problem, keep diagnostic information and logs to allow technical analysis of the case.
06
For any technical question or revision request about a delivered file, use the corresponding case on the ECUTuneFiles portal. This keeps the read, modified file, exchanges, and elements needed to resolve the issue.
WhatsApp is for commercial enquiries and pre-order questions. File after-sales support is handled on the portal.
Commercial terms, refunds and any claim deadlines are defined in the applicable contractual documents.
